Hello, my name is Kathy Reynolds, and I am the principal of Walnut Grove Elementary School. As the principal of Walnut Grove it is the vision of my faculty
and staff that we provide a place where all students are encouraged to strive for excellence academically, socially, and emotionally in a safe and supportive atmosphere. We will work in partnership with our parents and community to create an environment where students are empowered to discover their strengths and to achieve their maximum potential while providing opportunities for enrichment, intervention, and remediation. Our entire school community will share the commitment to high standards and the belief that all children can and will learn.
All About Me
I am a native of Madison County and a product of the Madison County School System. I attended Riverton Elementary and graduated from Buckhorn High School. I received my B.S. degree from Athens State College in Mathematics and Chemistry. I have an M.S. in Secondary Education-Mathematics from Alabama A&M University and an Ed.S. from Tennessee State University in Administration and Supervision.
I have been married to Jim Reynolds for 34 years. We have four wonderful kids, Jamie and Melissa Reynolds, Bart and Brittany Brown, and one amazing grandson Jay Reynolds. We have lived in the Hazel Green/Walnut Grove community for 24 years. This school year is the beginning of my twentieth year working for the Madison County Board of Education. I began my teaching career as a math teacher at The Career Academy. After the first year, I transferred to Hazel Green High School where I continued to teach math for the next 13 years. I then had the pleasure of working with AMSTI, Alabama Math, Science & Technology Initiative, as a math specialist for one year. I made the decision to return to Madison County as the Assistant Principal at New Hope High School where I remained for the next four years before coming to Walnut Grove.
Over the years I’ve spent many hours dreaming of being an administrator and finding the ideal school that matches my core values; small hometown atmosphere where everyone takes pride in their school and community. I have lived and worked in this community for many years; this small school is the pride of the community and fits my dream of an ideal school.
As an educator, I love making a difference. It is fulfilling to inspire teachers and develop teams of dedicated, hardworking followers and supporters who are willing to take risks and seek solutions that meet the needs of students; people who care about students and are passionate about improving student learning. As a teacher, I made a positive impact on the students I taught. My goal as a principal is to make a positive impact on an entire school.
